Wish Trip is a five page autobiographical comic Maya created based on the time the Henderson family went on a Make A Wish vacation- commonly known as a "Wish Trip"- in April 2009.

What is the Make A Wish Foundation?

​

Founded in 1981, Make a Wish is a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to children with critical illnesses. Often times, this means going on a special trip, meeting someone they admire, or being able to be somebody special for a day. The child who's wish is being granted is deemed the "wish child". 

 

Give Kids the World Village

​

"Give Kids the World Village is a nonprofit resort in Kissimmee, Florida that provides week-long, cost-free, wish vacations to critically ill children and their families from around the world who want to visit central Florida." (gktw.org/about)

Our Trip

"While my brother was the official 'wish child', Make A Wish did everything in their power to make this trip special for our entire family, so much so that we all still look back on this week with genuine fondness. We were gifted a week-long stay in Give Kids the World Village and provided tickets to theme parks available in central Florida. (Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studios) Coincidentally, having close family members that also lived in Florida made this vacation that much more special, since they were able to share the memories with us. My brother's wish was to 'see and ride trains', and he very much enjoyed his daily ride in the Give Kids the World train around the resort."
